My love affair with Zambia
God's dream is that you and I and all of us will realize that we are family, that we are made for togetherness, for goodness, and for compassion – Desmond Tutu
Zambia is a country where the people live with true ubuntu. Zambians are diligent, industrious, conscientious, super friendly, kind, and respectful of others. At a time when the world was in turmoil, it quickly restored my faith in humanity.
Unfortunately, it was a short stop due to unforeseen circumstances, but Zambia will always be that special place for me.
“I am because we are, we are because I am”
A few photo’s taken with a very old Samsung phone (sigh)!
My Local Market
Amazing selection of fruit, vegetables, and pulses available at a small market, manned by super friendly Zambians. Stallholders buy from suppliers at larger markets and then taxi to these small “suburbia” markets. At night stallholders just cover their wares and leave them unattended, and no one steals anything. A mind blow coming from South Africa!
Roadside Nursery
Lots of plant sellers along the side of the road beautifying the streets.
Plants left overnight and it seems they’re still there in the morning.
Creativity
A large variety of handcrafts, weaving, carving, and paintings can be bought along the roadside.
An incredible outdoor chess set made with recycled bottle tops.
Woodwork
It seems that Zambians are extremely talented woodworkers and carvers. Household furniture can be bought along the roadside and you can even have it delivered!
The Beauty of Zambia’s Nature

Golf Mornings
The weekend mornings were spent walking Lusaka golf clubs and taking photos.
